Bathroom waterproofing

Bathroom waterproofing

Dampness and constant moisture are the natural environment of the bathroom. Daily use of the shower or bathtub creates increased stress on the floor, walls and corners of the room. Without high-quality waterproofing, moisture will eventually penetrate the structures, which leads to the appearance of fungus, cracks, peeling tiles and damage to the ceilings. That is why waterproofing the bathroom is a mandatory stage both during renovation and in new construction.

Why is it important to waterproof a bathroom?

The bathroom is one of the areas with constant exposure to water and steam. Even with tiles and grout, moisture can penetrate through microcracks and joints. High-quality waterproofing of the floor and walls in the bathroom :

  • protects structures from destruction;

  • prevents the appearance of mold and fungus;

  • extends the service life of finishing materials;

  • minimizes the risk of leaks to neighbors.

IZOPLAST FH SPECIAL coating waterproofing

The optimal solution for a bathroom is a coating waterproofing , in particular the acrylic membrane IZOPLAST FH SPECIAL . This is a ready-to-use material that does not require additional mixing and is easy to apply.

The membrane is supplied in 4 kg buckets. The average consumption is 1–1.4 kg/m² per layer . The material is applied in two layers using a brush or roller, which allows for even coverage of the surface even in hard-to-reach places.

After drying, IZOPLAST FH SPECIAL forms an elastic, waterproof coating that adheres well to the base and compensates for minor deformations. The material is environmentally friendly , does not contain organic solvents and can be used in residential premises.

Sealing corners and joints

Even the best waterproofing will not be effective without proper sealing of corners and joints. These are the areas most vulnerable to leaks. To protect them, it is recommended to use Hydroflex 120/70 waterproofing tape .

The tape is made of synthetic rubber based on a reinforcing mesh and is designed for use in waterproofing systems. It is able to bridge cracks up to 7 mm , maintaining tightness even during structural movements.

To seal complex areas in the bathroom, it is recommended to use ready-made Hydroflex corner elements :

  • Hydroflex 120 IK — for internal corners

  • Hydroflex 120 DK — for external corners

The corners are made of elastic synthetic rubber with reinforcement and are used together with the Hydroflex 120/70 tape. They provide reliable waterproofing in places with the greatest risk of leaks and compensate for structural movements without damaging the insulation layer.

The tape is installed in several stages:

  1. The first layer of waterproofing is applied to the corners and joints of the walls and floor along the width of the tape.

  2. Hydroflex 120/70 tape and corners are glued into the fresh layer.

  3. After fixing, the tape and corners are covered with a second layer of coating waterproofing.

A comprehensive approach to bathroom waterproofing is a combination of IZOPLAST FH SPECIAL coating waterproofing and Hydroflex 120/70 waterproofing tape . This solution provides reliable protection against moisture, durability of repairs and comfortable operation of the room for many years.
