Reinforcement of the screed with fiber

Reinforcement of the screed with fiber

Installation of a screed with the addition of fiberglass is one of the most effective ways of reinforcing floors, which provides increased strength, the absence of shrinkage cracks and long-term operation of the structure. Due to uniform micro-reinforcement, the fiber works throughout the entire volume of the solution, providing better characteristics compared to metal meshes.

The main stages of making a fiber-reinforced screed

The process includes five sequential steps:

  1. Substrate preparation . The substrate is cleaned of dust, debris, and oil stains. If necessary, a primer is applied to improve adhesion.

  2. Installation of beacons. Beacons are set up behind the laser level, forming the design mark of the screed.

  3. Installation of damper tape. The tape compensates for temperature deformations and prevents cracks from appearing around the perimeter.

  4. Preparation of the solution with the addition of fiber. The fiber is introduced in two stages:

    • the first half - into a dry mixture,

    • the second - after adding water.

  5. Pouring and leveling the screed. The mixture is evenly distributed and smoothed with a rule.

Unlike reinforcing mesh, fiber does not require supports, does not create corrosion risks, does not add unnecessary weight to the structure, and allows for a more monolithic layer.

Fiber screed: technology features

The technology of installing a fiber screed is almost the same as a classic wet or semi-dry screed. The key aspect is high-quality mixing to avoid lumps. The fiber works across the entire cross-section of the layer, providing comprehensive reinforcement of the structure.

Compared to metal mesh, fiber significantly simplifies the work process and reduces costs:
no need to lift the mesh into the concrete body, carry heavy cards, or cut metal.

The use of fiberglass is the optimal solution for increasing the strength of screeds in residential, commercial and industrial construction. It is an affordable, economical and technologically simple method of reinforcement. The main thing is to choose the right type of fiber and adhere to the recommended dosages.
